Using Quotes in an Essay

Our assignment this week includes using in-text citations. The tricky part is using them correctly in MLA format within your essay. Anytime you are citing another work in your essay you must include a works cited page.

You can get the correct citation for your works cited page by using a citation machine. I’ve saved you time for this project and placed the proper citation below.

Applebee, Arthur N., Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, and Walt Whitman.

McDougal, Littell Literature and Language. American Literature ed. Evanston, IL.

     McDougal, Littel, 1994, Print.

To cite a specific work in the text of your essay and correctly develop a works cited page you need to refer to the instuctions on the Purdue Owl: MLA formatting website

For quick reference:

Romantic poetry is characterized by the “spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings” (Wordsworth 263).
The feeling of interconnectedness in the unverse is expressed by Whitman when he writes, “For every atom belonging to me as good belongs to you” (294).
Here’s a quick video that might help you digest this information on in-text citation.
